I was in VF-162 from '64 till Spring '66. I made the '65 Westpac as an AT1 assigned to QA Div. Some great memories of that time. Retired in 1978 as AVCM.

I was in VF-162 from 1962 to 1965. I was friends with Liptak and Wyatt. Liptak name was Steve not Gary and Wyatt was Lynn D, Wyatt.... I worked in the paint shop and did all the stars and belly bans on the planes.
Have not seen or heard from Liptak or Wyatt since I was discharged. I have seen Tom Brueske.

There is an F-8 with VF-162 markings in an aircraft park in Savigny in Burgundy, France.

Nose number is 204 and pilot name is Lt Richard E Wyman.

Looks like there is a French F-8 parked next to it

Flight Training buddy of LCDR Richard Minnich. Rich was lost over north Vietnam in 1968 and was listed as MIA for many years before being confirmed as a KIA pilot. I last saw him in the Yokosuka O Club the night before he left for his last trip to Yankee Station.

I was an AMS-2 and assigned to the airframes shop where I concentrated primarily on corrosion control. I clearly remember the day that Frederico was seriously wounded as I was working with him on the F8 directly ahead of the one that fired off the rounds. Fortunately the only thing that impacted me was that I could not hear well for a few days. I later transferred to Cubi Point along with Joe Brunson where we did substantial corrosion control and total repainting of the aircraft. I still have a picture that someone took of me painting the multicolored stars on Stockdale's "00".

I was an ADJ-2 in VF-91 aboard the USS Ranger in 1962-63 and then in VF-162 (1964-65) aboard the Oriskany with Bill Bailey, Al Kasch and others. I remember John Frederico hit with 20mm rounds on the hanger deck in 1965 during rewiring of the nose wheel steering button to fire the guns so the panal selector switch could be left for bomb and missile racks.
