Comments: Joined VF162 in November of 69 after making 2 westpacs on the Ticonderoga as ships company . Was on the flight line getting ready to preflight one of our planes on December 22 69 when the plane crashed into the hanger . Last thing I remember before the explosion was that 2 jet mechs were turning an F8 near me and I thought they had kicked afterburner and were in trouble . was one of the worst days of my life . Made the 70 cruise on the Shangri La and got out December 21 70 when the squadron was being decommissioned .

Comments: I was Maintenance Office on the Shang Cruise. Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of the men who worked so hard going that extra mile to keep those planes running. There are not many harder working men than you maintenance men. I tip my hat to you.

Comments: I grew up w/ VF-162. Was LCDR Geronime's left hand man (his words)in the Operations Department. The officer that made a lasting impression on me was LT J.T. Lawler. What a sad day it was when he crashed while on maintenance test flight. I made the first two cruises on the Big O w/ VF-162 as one of the OPS Yeoman-spent my time in the Ready Room. Would like to communicate w/ anyone that remembers me(Ferro,Harsch ?)

Comments: I joined VF162 in late July 67 as a plane captain. Completed the 67 cruise and often think about the officers and crew that I had the honor to serve with. Upon returning to Miramar, I joined the Armed Forces Aero Club at Montgomery Field and thanks to Lt. Philip Laberge of VFP63, I was taught to fly and earned my Private Pilots license in June of 68. Upon my discharge in Nov68, I enrolled at Ohio State University the following year and graduated in 1973 with a BA degree in Social & Behavioral Sciences .My years and experiences in the Navy have inspired me my entire adult life.
